Mobile Subscription Management
01 January 2015
This chapter presents technologies for managing mobile devices and subscriptions based on OverâtheâAir (OTA) methodologies. It also presents the general architectures and functionalities of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) OTA platforms, and outlines examples from the commercial field for OTA subscription management. The chapter defines the commands, application protocol, mandatory requirements on the Integrated Circuit Card (ICC) and terminal for each procedure. There are various commercial Subscriber Identity Module (SIM)/Universal ICC (UICC) vendors in global markets as well as respective SIM OTA management platforms. The OTA provisioning is typically capable of automatically downloading multiple types of settings to a variety of handset models. It may support various download protocols such as OMAâCP and OMAâDM, as well as vendorâspecific protocols of the device manufacturers. The OMA has designed remote management especially for the machineâtoâmachine (M2M) environment via the OMA Lightweight M2M protocol, which focuses on constrained cellular and sensor network M2M devices.
