The IEEE 802.16a standard is devised to provide the last-mile connectivity to fixed locations by radio links. Despite this original objective, we study ih this paper whether mobility can be supported by the 802.16a network without any change in the specification. Mobility enhancements are considered in later revisions of the standard (802.16e). However, before then we expect that 802.16a devices will be widely deployed in the field. Because of this our proposed techniques can be useful regardless of the final acceptance of the new 802.16a standard.
