Mode Locking of High-Power Neodymium-Yttrium Aluminum Garnet Lasers at Ultrahigh Repetition Rates

A high-power lamp-pumped Nd:YAG laser has been harmonically modelocked using a specially fabricated GaP modelocker at repetition rates of .25, .5 and 1 GHz. At these ultra-high modelocking frequencies the pulse duration is reduced as well. Stable 31 picosecond pulses have been produced with 4 Watts of average output power.
