Mode-multiplexed Transmission over 155~km Hybrid Few-Mode Fiber Span Based on Novel low-loss Mode coupler
15 February 2012
We present Mode-multiplexed transmission over 6 spatial- and polarization modes over a 155 km long hybrid span composed by 129 km depressed-cladding few-mode fiber and 25 km graded-index profile few-mode fiber. The modes are coupled using a novel low loss 3-spot mode coupler which is described in detail. The signals are recovered by coherent multiple-input-multiple-output off-line digital signal processing. The fiber loss is overcome by backward pumped distributed Raman amplification.
