Mode-Multiplexed Transmission over a 184-km DGD compensated Few-Mode Fiber Span
09 July 2012
We present multiplexed transmission of 5 wavelength channels and 6 spatial- and polarization modes over a 184 km long hybrid span consisting of 129 km depressed-cladding few-mode fiber and 55 km graded-index few-mode fiber. A pair of low loss 3-spot mode couplers are used and the fiber loss is partially compensated by backward pumped distributed Raman amplification. The 40 Gbit/s QPSK signals with an aggregate capacity of 1.2 Tbit/s are recovered by coherent multiple-inputmultiple-output off-line digital signal processing.
