Modern high-pressure research.

High pressure generation using the Diamond Anvil Cell (DAC) and techniques that are employed to study the high pressure behavior of solids are briefly described. Recent experiments on pressure-induced metallization, electronic and structural phase transitions are discussed, with examples such as Xe, CsI, Ba chalcogenides, H(2), lanthanides, actinides,, alkali and alkaline earth metals, Si, Ge, Sn and superconducting phosphorus.
