Recent developments in the common experimental vibrational spectroscopic techniques (i.e. Infrared, Raman, High Energy Electron Loss Spectroscopy, Helium Atom Scattering, and Sum Frequency Generation) are reviewed in this article, together with select results. Particular emphasis is given to two important topics, which have attracted much attention in recent years: (1) Complex surface reactions in technologically-relevant systems and (2) Vibrational dynamics, with particular emphasis on energy dissipation at surfaces.
