Telephone companies provide remote alarming for their transmission facilities and central offices to simplify operations, reduce operation costs, and rapidly alert people of problems. This remote alarming allows for unattended central offices or for staffing only during prime shifts with regional or statewide control centers. A key application for remote alarming is monitoring digital loop carrier systems.
