We examine the possibility of using a Large-Scale Antenna System (LSAS) as a multicast system, which provides distinct broadcast programs simultaneously to different groups of user terminals. Specifically, we analyze the performance of using a common reverse link pilot sequence for the channel estimation for users receiving the same program and derive an optimal reverse/forward link combined power control scheme that equalized the throughput among all the users. The power control scheme is optimal in the sense that the equalized per user throughput is maximized. Compared with an LSAS which uses distinct pilot sequence for each user, our approach provides the following advantages: 1) it can simultaneously support many more user; 2) it delivers substantially higher throughput per user; 3) lower power consumption on user terminal power.
