Operational Influence of a Mixed SMF/MMF-Fibre Type Optical Distribution Network onto a 10 Gbit/s-capable PON

Existing multi-mode fibre infrastructure can be reused to run single-mode fibre based FTTH networks if few dB of system margins are accounted. The impact on 10 Gbit/s-capable PON-systems of very long OM2 MMF sections (up to 1000 m) embedded into the single-mode fibre infrastructure has been investigated.
