Operations Impact of Optical Loop Multiplexers
28 March 1990
The rate of deployment of optical multiplexers for loop applications continues to grow. Associated operations have the ability to evolve requiring fewer resources by making use of features inherent to the multiplexers. Both asynchronous and SONET multiplexers have features such as performance monitoring, that are primarily used to maintain the equipment, but also can be used to maintain the equipment, but also can be used to maintain the services carried by the multiplexers. As operations systems evolve to take advantage of these capabilities, services to the customer can be monitored and tested without the need for manual dispatch or external test equipment.
