PC 6300 direct memory access interface to an optical multichannel analyzer.

An optical multichannel analyzer (EG&G PAR Model 1218 Detector Controller) has been interfaced to the AT&T PC 6300 microcomputer. A high speed parallel interface with direct memory access (DMA) was required; and interface board meeting our needs has been developed recently by MetraByte Corporation. This board should be of general interest to other experimentalists using PCs for data acquisition and instrument control. Flexible laboratory interfaces can now be implemented routinely with microcomputers because of the availability of powerful interface boards which can be controlled with drivers accessible from high-level languages.
