In this paper we develop a Markovian network model for CDMA packet radio networks. Instead of a threshold connectivity model we use a realistic decay model for broadcast signal propagation in a terrestrial environment. We also study a detailed reception model and determine the performance of a simple scheme for code synchronization in the presence of multiuser interference and random background noise, using matched filters. These results are then incorporated in an approximate throughput analysis of general multihop networks with arbitrary traffic requirements. We compare analytical and simulation results and find the approximation errors to be less than 5% for a number of different network topologies.
