Phase Separation of Ba sub 2 YCu sub 3 O sub 7 in an Oxygen Gradient

Schmalzried has discussed the phenomena of demixing which may take place in solid solutions or oxide compounds when subjected to an oxygen gradient. This can occur even in the absence of oxidation reduction phenomena or under circumstances where the sample would remain unchanged in either atmosphere individually.
