Phonon thermal conductivity and stripe correlations in La2-xSrxNiO4 and Sr1.5La0.5MnO4
15 April 1999
High-precision thermal conductivity measurements have been performed on a single crystal of La1.67Sr0.33NiO4 as well as on polycrystalline samples of La2-xSrxNiO4 (x = 0.33,1) and Sr1.5La0.5MnO4. The charge/spin stripe order in La1.67Sr0.33NiO4 and Sr1.5La0.5MnO4 leads to a straightforward interpretation of our results in terms of static and dynamic stripe correlations. Polarons may play a major role in the metallic compound of LaSrNiO4. These results corroborate a recent thermal conductivity study of rare earth doped La2-xSrxCuO4 which reveals the possible importance of dynamic stripe correlations on cuprate superconductivity.
