PMD-Tolerant Direct Detection in Stokes Space

Direct detection systems have been vulnerable to polarization mode dispersion (PMD). We propose using joint polarization recovery in Stokes and Jones space in a Stokes-vector receiver (SVR) with dual-polarization (DP) optical field recovery to achieve PMD immunity comparable to that of coherent receivers, verified by a 372-Gb/s DP 64-QAM SVR experiment.
