Polarization Dependent Loss: fundamental limits and how to approach them

Polarization-Dependent-Loss impairs polarization-multiplexed systems and fundamentally limits their capacity. Significant gains are achieved when signaling and channel equalization are properly addressed. Compared to conventional processing, 0.9dB SNR gain is measured for error-free transmission at PDL=6dB.
