Polarization Fluctuations in a 147 km Undersea Lightwave Cable During Installation.
01 January 1987
We describe measurements of the time dependent state of polarization transmitted through a 147-km undersea cable during and after cable installation. The power spectra of the Stokes parameters exhibit a low-pass characteristic with 0.24 Hz break-frequency and -29 dB/decade roll-off during installation ar 2 knots in 2000 meters of water. After installation these parameters drop to 0.04 Hz and -24 dB/decade, respectively.
