Pole timber and its preservation
14 April 1928
Gives some details of the forestry of the red fir (Pinus sylvestris) used by the British Post Office for telephone poles and of the strength and methods of measurement of poles. This is followed by short notes on the nature of wood and on the conditions giving rise to decay. Alternative methods of treatment to creosoting are referred to, and then a description of the Full Cell, Boulton, Rueping and Lowry processes and a general comparison of the results attained by them are given.
