Potentialities of an integrated digital network

Briefly reviews the technical basis, performance, economic gains, and general feasibility of a comprehensive network based on the class of digital transmission established by the introduction of pulse code modulation. It is shown that such a network is attractive, not only for telephony, but also for data, text transmission, and other non-voice modes.
