Power Saving for Machine to Machine Communication in Cellular Networks

Machine to Machine (M2M) services can provide promising applications via cellular networks to facilitate people's daily life a lot. However challenges have to be faced compared to traditional Human to Human (H2H) communication. In this paper, we firstly introduce what are the challenges and then focus on solutions to support long life battery. To save the power of M2M devices, improvements are proposed to M2M devices, radio access network and core network, by which the camped wireless M2M devices can work well with optimized activities and simplified signaling procedures. Meanwhile, the proposed ideas do not introduce negative impacts on legacy mobile stations.
