Power Saving of Machine to Machine Communications in Cellular Networks

This document is a book chapter on M2M for Woodhead Publishing Ltd. The chapter is to highlight the issues pertaining to power saving issues in cellular networks for both the M2M device perspective and the network operation perspective. On the one hand, we discuss the direct way to removal of unnecessary M2M activities. On the other hand, we also discuss the indirect way to improve the network operations and signalling flow for both AS and NAS. The chapter describes the challenges, outlines the solutions, and discusses performance results. We also make a survey in relevant standardization progresses.
