Precollege Statistics and Probability: The ASA-NCTM Quantitative Literacy Project

Over the last several years members of ASA and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics have collaborated on an NSF-funded project to introduce modern ideas of data analysis, empirical probability, simulation, and statistics into the curriculum in grades 6-12. This has included publishing four supplementary books and presenting many teacher training workshops. This talk will describe the project and how it has been received by teachers and students, mention other current efforts to revitalize precollege mathematics and science education, and discuss how statisticians can contribute further to these efforts.
