Predicting the Performance of Non-binary Coding Schemes in Optical Transmission Experiments

In this paper, we show that the symbol-wise mutual information can be used to accurately predict the performance of different coded modulation schemes when non-binary coded modulation is employed. We verify the prediction in an optical transmission experiment.
