Probabilistic and Geometric Shaping for Next-generation 100G Flexible PONs

We investigate probabilistic (PS) and geometric shaping (GS) for next generation flexible passive optical networks (PONs). Our proposed scheme introduces flexible line rate tuning with up to 1.1-dB sensitivity improvement, while GS can effectively mitigate the penalty brought by Forward error correction (FEC) combination.
