Propagation in periodically deformed circular and rectangular waveguides

A general method is developed for the analysis of periodic waveguides for the case where the guide wall is a periodic surface of revolution. This method is given in detail for a circular guide having a sinusoidally rippling wall and approximate velocity and impedance equations are derived from the field expressions obtained. The rectangular section is treated by a perturbation technique and very simple expressions result. This guide offers promise for use in wide-band power traveling wave amplifiers.
