The anticipation of providing high-capacity microcellular mobile and personal communications at microwave or millimeter wave frequencies has led to a series of measurements in both rural and semi-urban areas. The aim is to measure the radio propagation characteristics at these frequencies in a microcellular mobile radio environment where transmission is essentially line-of-sight (LOS). In this environment, a mobile or portable user communicates with fixed compact canisters mounted on lamp posts, etc, with spacings of up to 2000 feet.
