Properties and Applications for Optical Fiber Media
30 August 1987
This talk will describe the principles governing propagation in optical fibers. Loss and dispersion wavelength, core diameter, spot-size, and refractive-index profile shape. The talk will emphasize applications of fiber-optic sensors based on light intensity and phase changes in the presence of sensory fields. Examples will show how lightguides can be specialized for sensing temperature, pressure, chemical concentration, and rotational motion.
