Scientific research problems in geophysics and space physics increasingly require the processing and analysis of more and more bytes of data from a broad range of ground- and satellite- based instrumentation. The problems also often require the close coupling of data analysis results and computer modeling. The challenges for individual researchers in coping with vast data sets and sophisticated models are formidable at present, and will become even more so in the next decade. We present here some of our views on prospects for data analysis systems for the 1990's - including data bases, computer networking, computer technologies, and specialized AI-type systems.
