Publish/Subscribe Over Virtual XML Data

This position paper motivates the need for a publish/subscribe (pub/sub) framework over virtual XML data by examining its role in building rich communication services that can take advantage of the large amount of user information available in telecom networks. Sample communication scenarios are discussed to determine the requirements that such an XML subscription language should meet. Design issues involved in building a scalable pub/sub system are examined, and a preliminary solution is presented. Numerous research challenges that are involved in building a comprehensive solution are discussed.
