Quantifying the Operations Benefits of Packet Trunking Technology
01 January 2005
The use of packet networks based on Internet Protocol technology for numerous next-generation service offerings is a central strategy for numerous service providers. One of the common strategies for justifying the build-out of a ubiquitous packet network is in inter-office trunking applications. In addition to attractive economics and future positioning, numerous operational benefits can be realized. This paper examines the present and potential future operations processes for voice trunking, and presents methods for quantifying the inherent benefits that can be realized by deployment of packet technology for voice trunking applications.
