Quantum Liquid Versus Electron Solid at Low Landau Level Filling-Factors

The ground state of a 2D electron system for Landau level filling factor V->0 is a Wigner solid whereas for finite filling-factors the quantum liquids of the FQHE prevail. The transition between both phases is predicted to occur somewhere between V~1/5 and V~1/11. In spite of recent DC transport and equivalent high-frequency measurements, neither the electron solid nor the transition point have been positively identified.
