Radio and optical observations of the jets from L1551 and IRS- 5.
01 January 1985
Radio continuum observations obtained with the VLA and optical CCD images are presented of the jets associated with the infrared source IRS-5 located in the core of the dark cloud L1551. The radio observations show that there are two oppositely directed jets which extend for more than 10" from IRS-5 along the axis of the bipolar molecular outflow. The integrated radio spectrum is flat suggesting that the emission is optically thin and thermal. Images obtained with broad band V, R, and I filters and narrow band H(alpha) filter reveal an optical jet emanating from the south-west of IRS-5 coincident with the radio jet but no optical emission associated with the north-east radio jet.
