Shared Protection Schemes for Meshed Networks

In this paper we focus on shared protection in meshed networks. In particular we compare a generic shared path protection scheme with a generic shared link protection scheme. The shared path protection approach was described in [3]. In this paper we compare this approach with a generic shared link protection approach. In general, the shared link protection can provide effective resiliency mechanism that is competitive with other solutions, such as ring based protection, from both bandwidth efficiency and restoration time viewpoints.
