The need for tactile sensing in robotics is well-documented, and a number of senslors have been proposed and demonstrated. Recently we introduced a tactile sensor based on magnetoresistance and showed its potential advantages for robotics applications. This sensor comprised a magnetoresistive detector chip, an array of magnets, and a compliant layer in between.
