Silicon photonic integrated circuit for coupling to a ring-core multimode fiber for space-division multiplexing

We propose and demonstrate a silicon photonic integrated circuit for coupling to the modes of a novel radially single-mode and azimuthally multimode ring-core fiber (RCF). The mode properties of the RCF allow for selective excitation of all modes via a star-coupler-fed circular grating coupler.
