Single and multimode fiber bandwidth measurements with single and multi longitudinal mode lasers operating at 0.8, 1.3 and 1.5micron wavelength.

The bandwidth characteristics of single and multimode optical fibers have been investigated with single and multi longitudinal laser sources operating at 0.8, 1.3 and 1.5micron. It is shown that single mode fiber with a cutoff wavelength of 1.3micron can support 1 Gb/s transmission over at least 7.5 km with a 0.8micron laser source.
