Size Selected Semiconductor Clusters in the Gas Phase and on Surfaces

It is now possible to investigate the physical and chemical properties of ultra small particles of semiconductors containing a precisely known number of atoms. The properties of these small particles, or clusters, are quite different from those of the bulk material. Experiments probing the chemistry of size selected silicon clusters in the materials area or in catalysis requires that they be collected on a support. Experiments will be described where size selected clusters have been deposited in well characterized surfaces and studied using STM, XPS, and RBS.
