Small cells are needed in a number of application areas, which also call for a number of different product categories. This chapter presents examples of small cell products. Outdoor small cells provide higher capacity in hot spot areas, better coverage and higher data rates. The chapter illustrates third generation partnership project (3GPP) base station categories, and introduces micro and pico base station products. The chapter explains femtocells and low‐power remote radio head (RRH). In a distributed antenna systems (DASs) the RF signal of one or more base stations is distributed to a number of remote antennas to cover a pre‐defined indoor or (less often) an outdoor area. There are two main categories of DAS: passive DAS and active DAS. Wireless solution is a fast approach for small cell base station backhaul. Wi‐Fi small cells provide a means of offloading traffic from mobile networks in homes, offices and public premises.
