Software-Hardware Partitioning in Scheduled Medium-Access Protocols
14 February 2005
A scheduled medium-access protocol (SMAP) is a shared medium access control protocol that avoids collisions by scheduling the transmissions of stations in the network. Typically there is a central entity in the sytem (the scheduler) that determines and communicates the schedule to all other stations. Broadband access networks such as cable-modem systems and passive optical networks (PON) use this type of medium access.
