Software Inspections: An Effective Verification Process

One of the fundamentals of a good V&V program is that verification steps need to be performed throughout a software development effort. Traditionally, reviews walkthroughs at different points in the development process have been used for this and other purposes. But in the past thirteen years a number of development organizations have replaced or supplemented reviews and walkthroughs with software inspections. For V&V purposes - the detection and correction of defects early in the development process - software inspections have been found to be superior to reviews and walkthroughs.
