Software Measurement: Do We Understand What We Are Measuring?

This paper presents the measurements of five widely used software metrics: product size, development effort, number of software faults, productivity, and fault density. These five metrics are essential to software engineers like these metrics, they have to use them in scheduling, controlling, and improving products and processes.
