Solid State sup 13 C NMR Study of Poly(p-phenylene sulphide) and Two Model Compounds

New Image

Variable temperature, high resolution, solid state sup 13 C NMR spectra are reported for semi-crystalline and amorphous poly(p-phenylene sulphide) (PPS), for the crystalline cyclic pentamer of PPS [C-(PS) sub 5], and for crystalline diphenyl sulphide (DPS). Single resonances are observed for both the quaternary (Q) and protonated (P) carbons in crystalline PPS, while only a featureless, broad envelope of resonances are observed for amorphous PPS below its glass transition temperature (T sub g), which become resolved into single Q and P resonances above T sub g.
