Space-division multiplexing and all-optical MIMO demultiplexing using photonic integrated circuits

We demonstrate a silicon photonic integrated circuit for selectively coupling to and for all-optically demultiplexing the six spatial and polarization modes of few-mode fiber (FMF). We successfully demultiplex all six modes after transmission through 30 km of FMF. OCIS codes: 060.2330 Fiber optics communications, 130.3120 Integrated optics devices.
