Spatial Channel Model and Measurements for IMT-2000 Systems
01 January 2001
In this paper we propose a spatial channel model for the simulation of IMT-2000 systems. The channel model extends two-dimensional models specified by the ITU for IMT- 2000 simulation to three-dimensional models. Specifically, we extend the Pedestrian A and B models as well as the Vehicular A and B models to six spatial models for macro-cell and micro-cell environments. The resulting models provide a large range of simulation environments with a relatively small number of parameters to adjust. The model also allows temporal evolution, Ricean fading, simultaneous uplink/downlink modeling, and allows an arbitrary number of antennas at the transmitter and receiver. Further, we provide a few simple examples to highlight the implications of the different models. Finally, we present measurement results from urban and suburban environments at uplink and downlink frequencies which verify key aspects of the spatial model.
