Speech Recognition Research - Technology and Applications
03 October 1989
At AT&T Bell Laboratories, we have studied a broad range of systems for speech recognition. In particular we have investigated the use of isolated word recognition/(based on whole word patterns) for command and control applications in which a simple spoken word (or phrase) elicites a recognition response. Typical uses within the telecommunications area include call type recognition and call routing. We have also extensively studied a limited form of continuous speech recognition based on whole word reference patterns. Such systems are often referred to as connected word recognizers since they recognize the speech as a concatenated sequence of whole reference patterns.
