Spin Polarized Studies of Epitaxially Grown Fe Thin Films
12 March 1990
Spin polarized photoemission studies find ferromagnetic growth for Fe thin films grown on both Pd(001) and Cu(001) substrates. For room temperature growth the magnetization is in plane for the Pd(001)surface. Photoemission studies reveal a band structure similar to that of bcc iron with a well defined minority peak immediately below the Fermi level. Studies of low temperature growth on Cu(001) find the magnetization out of plane. This situation persists up to approximately six monolayers at which point the polarization of the film becomes less well defined.
