Statistical Training Needs Of Engineers

This talk will be presented in a session on 'Viewpoint of Employers' at the Annual Meeting of The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The purpose of the session is to give some 'end users' of ABET accreditation (in this case, employers) an opportunity to give voice to their most pressing concerns regarding the quality of engineering education and of ABET's performance of its primary activity-accreditation- and its impact on the maintenance of excellence in such education. This talk will concentrate on current uses and needs for statistical techniques in the electronics manufacturing industry, especially experimental design and graphical data analysis. Related tools for quality improvement methodology will also be discussed.
