Storage Fragmentation

Efficient use of storage has been a major concern of computer science and operations research for many years. Unfortunately, the analysis of storage allocation policies in a dynamic setting has a well deserved reputation for being very difficult. The past few years have nevertheless seen a number of theoretical and experimental results which have yielded important insights into the general problem. It is the purpose of this paper to review this research.
