Time- and angle-resolved vuv photoemission spectroscopy is an important application of laser-produced vuv radiation. This paper reviews the techniques used to produce time-resolved photoemission spectra, and discusses the physical problems which can be explored by this new technique. Two experiments are reviewed in detail: spectroscopy of the photoexcited InP (110) surface; and electron dynamics on the cleaved Si (111) 2x1 reconstruction.
